Colds and the flu are not 60’s friendly

Colds and the flu, not 60 friendly

Colds and flue

It’s now cold and flu season and does anyone like taking all the medicines?  Do you feel full of drugs? Sick of having colds? I have some new thoughts on this.

I have tackled migraines and back pains so far with essential oils and now I’m ready to take on winter.  As you know, if you’ve been reading, I really don’t want to take medicine unless I have to.  Too many side effects and just doesn’t seem the healthy way to go.

As we age, those colds can turn to pneumonia easily and the flu can be deadly. We need to protect ourselves. It’s not enough to clean the cart handles in the supermarket or public bathrooms. We need to keep our phones clean, the remotes to the tv and so many places germs hide.

To back up on my journey

The first oil I tried was lavender, I was told by a friend that it’s great to help with sleep.  After putting a drop on my temples, back of my  neck and bottoms of my feet, I was amazed. I found myself being very relaxed and fell asleep quickly. Needless to say, I was sold on it right away. So off I went on a new quest.

I woke up one morning, last month, after an amazing party only to realize my head was killing me.  I am all too familiar with this uncomfortable feeling.  When I drink red wine or am stressed I get migraines.  I’ve used a very strong medicine to get rid of them for many years now. All started when I was 20 in a car accident.  Nothing works but Imigran, the medicine the doc will give you when you go to the ER.

What to do?

This particular morning, I woke up and realized my medicine was at my other home and I forgot it.  It was 4 am. I remembered a friend said to try peppermint oil  in the mouth and lavender on the temples and neck.  Without thinking, I used two drops of peppermint and I thought my head was going to explode.  After the shock, I sat for a while and then put the lavender on my head and neck.  Once my stomach seemed to calm down, I tried to go back to sleep. After two hours of sleep, I woke up with no migraine hangover, no upset stomach, no aura, I was great!  Shocked beyond my imagination.  I will add, I have needed it once again recently and the same results.

Next step

I was getting ready for a party and was moving tables around outside when I felt the pull.  Yup, the lower back and wow, it started hurting immediately. Went to bed that night and had a terrible time so check on the Youngliving website and found that frankincense was great for inflammation. Lucky for me I had just ordered it and hubby brought it from NY for me.  Wow, within 20 minutes I was able to move around and deal with it.  I do not know how it works or if I’m really lucky but these oils are now in my life and I’m so happy.

Back to cold and flu season

All the doctors will  tell you to drink water and rest when you get sick, the idea is not to get sick.  I find Vitamin c with Zinc helps during the winter months but now, I have found Thieves.

First I want to share the information about Thieves, here is a booklet that you can read. Booklet

Thieves® essential oil is a powerful combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils for an aromatic blend that fills any space with a rich, spicy aroma. Inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals used while robbing the dead and dying, Thieves is one of Young Living’s most popular products.

With the benefits of Thieves oil including cleaning power and an irresistibly spicy scent, Young Living offers it as an essential oil blend and as an important ingredient in a full range of home cleaning and personal care products, from dish soap to toothpaste. Looking to make your home smell as clean as it looks? Diffuse Thieves oil throughout the house for an aroma that makes every room smell more like fall baking than harsh cleaning formulas.

    • I had heard of oils but never tried them until a few months ago when hubby kept coughing and his nose clogged up. I started diffusing Eucalyptus oil and it was the first thing to help. Don’t know how or why it works but it’s been a pleasant surprise. It’s worth a try, ends up cheaper than medication.Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

  • Have only recently started using oils. They are so great. Thank you for shartmore ways of using them.

    • They are amazing, aren’t they. How do you use them?

      • I did an oils workshop through a friend who mixes oils. I use oils instead of perfume. My friend has her secret cold and flu mix that I swear by. Wanting to learn how to use more of them!

  • Hi Jayne,

This is good stuff! You know, every time I visit my pharmacist, he’s always asking me to get a flu shot. I’m not a fan of injecting stuff into me and keep telling him no! With With this product, I can feel more confident that it will do more good than harm.

Thanks for sharing it with us!
